The Chalet

A house that doesn't pretend.

Chalet Legi is not a holiday rental dressed up in alpine decor. It is an old Bernese chalet that still looks the way it was built. The panelling is original, the floors creak in the right places, and the display cabinet in the living room holds things that have been here longer than we have.

Where it has been modernised, it has been modernised where it matters: kitchen, bathroom, internet.

The living room

The largest room in the house, with a long table seating all ten. Benches along the walls, a smart TV with more than 300 channels for the rainy afternoon, and windows on two sides. This is where most of the holiday happens.

The kitchen

Fully equipped, with cooker, oven, fridge, dishwasher and everything you need to cook for a large group. Raclette and fondue sets are provided – in Adelboden, that is not optional.

Sleeping

Four bedrooms with eight permanent beds:

RoomBeds
Room 1double bed 140 × 200 cm
Room 2double bed 140 × 200 cm
Room 3king-size bed 180 × 200 cm
Room 4two single beds 90 × 200 cm · walk-through room

About the layout: Room 4 can only be reached through Room 3 – the two rooms sit one behind the other, with no separate door to the hallway. For families that works well, the children sleep right next door. For two couples who don't know each other well, it is less ideal. We would rather tell you now than have you discover it on arrival.

Plus a sofa bed (140 cm) with two additional places. The house is set up for eight by default – tell us when booking if you would like to use the sofa bed, and we will put out extra duvets.

Bed linen and towels are provided.

A note for anyone with limited mobility: the chalet spreads over several floors and the bedrooms are only reachable by stairs. The house is not step-free.

The bathroom

The chalet has one bathroom: bathtub with shower, washbasin, WC and washing machine, all in the same room.

We say this plainly on purpose. With a large group, mornings need a little coordination – knowing that in advance, you plan around it. For families and groups travelling together it works well; if you want ten people showering at once, this is not the house for you.

The water

There is a second thing we mention openly: the chalet has its own spring with a 400-litre reservoir. In a dry spell about 30 litres per hour flow back in.

Up to six people this has never been an issue. With larger groups it pays to use water consciously – a short shower rather than a bath, and not everyone within the same half hour. A short note in the house explains it.

In autumn 2026 we expect to install a larger reservoir. After that the house will be considerably more flexible in this respect.

The sauna

From early November to the end of March the sauna stands ready on the meadow by the chalet – at no extra charge; during those months it simply comes with the chalet. A large sauna tent with a wood stove: up to temperature in twenty to thirty minutes, reaching 100 degrees. There is room inside for the whole group: a two-tier bench, 2.18 metres long on the lower tier and comfortable to lie on, 1.5 metres on the upper tier for sitting. Plus a second bench opposite the stove. Windows all round – you sit inside and look out at the mountains.

It is heated with wood, and we provide that wood free of charge, just like the wood for the fire bowl. From the löyly into the snow and back into the warm house is a few steps. We show you how to light the stove when you arrive, and instructions are kept by the sauna.

In summer the sauna is available on request. It is taken down then and has to be put up and fired, so please ask when you book rather than on arrival. We will come back to you with the details.

Children only with an adult. The stove and the flue get very hot – take it slowly and listen to your body.

The wood heating

The chalet is heated by a central wood-fired system that you operate yourself. Firewood is provided, and illustrated instructions plus a short video are posted right by the boiler door. It is easier than it sounds – usually one round a day is enough.

In summer you don't need to heat at all. The hot water can be switched to electric, so you get a warm shower without lighting a fire. The wood heating is only needed when the house actually turns cold.

If you would rather not operate it yourself, tell us when booking: we take care of it for CHF 30 per night.

Outside

In front of the house lies a sunny terrace with the picnic table, and beyond it the meadow with the fire bowl, its woodshed and old fruit trees – help yourself to the fruit. In the evening the light hits the peaks opposite in a way that makes people reach for their phones.

Firewood for the fire bowl is provided free of charge. You don't need to bring anything to grill outside or simply sit by the fire.

Two parking spaces sit right by the house. Skis, sledges and bikes go in the barn.
